Ashley's Trips

This blog initially began as a way for me to share my backpacking adventures through Europe with my friends and family back home. It continues to document my new adventures even though I have returned...

Back to Nenagh, Ireland

After we left New Grange, Crystal and I drove across Ireland to Galway. This was fairly uneventful other than an interesting hour of trying to find our hostel that resulted in the purchase of the most expensive map in Galway only to find out that the hostel was around the corner from where we were. Oh, and I also managed to "navigate" us onto a pedestrian only street in the middle of town. Hee hee! We all make mistakes, right?
So after we spent the night in Galway there was no place to go but home again home again jiggity jig. Back to Nenagh and Emma's family to rest up for our flight back to Germany the following morning.

This is Jenny, Emma's sister. She is holding her new bunny that her boyfriend Tom gave her while we were visiting. Not sure what she decided to name it but the little furball sure was cute.

We went out for one last pint of Guinness before heading back home and this is where we met Milo. Milo is said to have been one of the finest flute players in the city when he was younger. He still carries a flute in his coat pocket and we were able to persuade him to play. All I can say is, unbelievable.

New Grange, Ireland

Bru na Boinne in County Meath. They look like random hills along the countryside but in fact they are man-made structures. I can't tell you how many Irish people I have met that have never been out to see these amazing mounds (Although I have never been to the Grand Canyon). They were constructed 500 years before Stonehenge and 1000 years prior to the pyramids making each structure approximately 5000 years old.

They really are impressive structures. New Grange is featured here. It is one of the largest structures in the county and the only one that tourists are allowed to enter. The inside is a long hallway that ends with three corners that were believed to have been used in burial rituals.

The amazing this is that the slit seen above our heads allows sunlight into the passageway only a few days out of the year during the winter solstice. The passage way is completely lit up and allows full visibility for only a few minutes. How they figured that one out I will never know.

Here is Crystal in our handy dandy rental car. I can't tell you how many times we accidentally walked to the wrong sides of the car because everything was on the opposite side.

Straight from the Teet

Dublin, Ireland offers more than just the Book of Kells or Trinity College. That's right it is actually the home of the famous Guiness Brewery, aka Kevin's Mecca.

The Guiness Bird

A free pint straight from the source. Yummy!

This was a pub right outside of the Brewery and it made me think of my dear ol' brother. Wish you had been with us!
