Ashley's Trips

This blog initially began as a way for me to share my backpacking adventures through Europe with my friends and family back home. It continues to document my new adventures even though I have returned...

Zurich

Some random pictures of Zurich. I only stayed a night there on my way back to Bielefeld so these pictures aren't the most interesting I'm afraid.

Hey Rania! Look, I took a picture of a clock for you!

Chalet Martin Gryon, Switzerland

I heard from some people in Interlaken that there were some thermal baths in Gryon, located in the Southwestern part of Switzerland. I had no agenda to stick to and thought, "Sounds good to me"

I stayed here at the Chalet Martin. It was an incredible place to relax for a few days.

This was the view from my bedroom. Seriously.

I'll be honest, I didn't do any rock climbing, the town wasn't large enough to do any shopping, so I spent a lot of my time in the position shown here. Lounging. And I don't even feel a little bit bad about it. The weather was warm and I couldn't be bothered to get out of the sunshine.

Behind the chateau the land was occupied by several Llamas. This one here couldn't be bothered to get out of the sunshine either. Can you blame him?

I Can Fly!

While I was in Interlaken I decided that I had to do some sort of activity. Rock climbing felt a bit out of my league and Sky Diving might have made my mother fly to Switzerland to stop me so I settled on Paragliding.

This is the spot we took off from. You literally run off the mountain and fly. So cool.

My pilot, setting up the parachute and gear

Woo Hoo! Look at me I'm flying!

Interlaken, Switzerland

So, Crystal and I had to go our seperate ways after Lake Como. She had to get back to Germany because her interrail pass was running out, she had to get back to work and see her honey. Plus I think laundry was in order. The morning of October 10th we rode on a train together as fas as Luzern and then I went to Interlaken and she rode and additional 8 hours back to Bielefeld.

First Impression: Interlaken is definitely not a bad place to venture on your own. Look at how beautiful it is! I spent the first day walking around the town and then hanging out at the hostel. The weather was perfect and the town was quiet and not intimidating at all.

I stayed at a place called Balmers. It is a huge hostel in the middle of town with a bar, club, pool tables, restaurant etc. These are a few guys that I met the first night. Dave (the Brit) is covering his face, then a guy from Sweden who was walking to Spain (craziness), a guy from Alaska and an Aussie.

I would like to point out that I kicked the Swed's butt in a game of pool. I have not lost my touch!

Dave enjoying his favorite meal: schnitzel!

I couldn't resist taking this picture.

Como Say What?

My big purchase in Bellagio. I was heading off to Switzerland the next morning and then to Germany where the weather will be a touch cooler this winter than I am used to in Vegas. I figured a nice scarf and hat would do me just fine.

Crystal and I on the shuttle boat. My IPOD and splitter came in handy along the ride. We were rocking out to my tunes and enjoying the scenery.

A few pictures from the lake.

Como's claim to fame: The Volta Museum. Apparently the inventor of the battery is from Como.

Como/Bellagio

Lake Como was incredible. Crystal and I decided to take the slower shuttle boat across the lake. It was a slow ride to Bellagio (where we were headed to have lunch) but well worth the journey. It is a beautiful area.

We thought this area looked like a place from Star Wars Episode II

We stopped for lunch in Bellagio. The town was a meandering area of shops and restaurants. Here I had a fantastic asparagus, truffle oil and parmesan risotto. So much better than the deli counters we had been frequenting!
